Agroecology at the centre of variety evaluation

New varieties are a lever for the agro-ecological transition towards sustainable production systems. Assessing the value for sustainable cultivation and use (VSCU) of varieties, for inclusion in the official catalogue, is a formidable tool for guiding breeding choices, towards varieties that are better adapted to agro-ecological practices.

The evolution of variety evaluation in official multilocal trial networks and the inclusion of traits of agro-ecological interest in the definition of the eligibility of varieties for the official catalogue are therefore crucial aspects.

If you would like to find out more about what the CTPS and GEVES are doing to support the agro-ecological transition of farming systems, we invite you to visit our new website.

Resource documents are available, including a technical manual for testing varieties in agro-ecological systems developed as part of the RESO2 project.
