Publication of the GEVES Index Seminum 2026
The Index Seminum is a specialised catalogue published by botanical gardens and research institutes. It lists the seeds available for exchange between these institutions around the world.
This practice facilitates the sharing of plant resources and supports biodiversity conservation, research and education.
The GEVES National Seed Testing Station (SNES) has just published its Index Seminum 2026, which lists 156 species of native or naturalised plants.
These species were cultivated and harvested between 2023 and 2025 on a plot of approximately 150 square metres, located at the GEVES headquarters and managed by the botanical team of the physical analysis laboratory.
This publication was sent to 124 European botanical gardens and research institutes.
Promoting seed exchanges is essential for enriching and renewing our collections and stocks. Our reference collection, one of the largest in France with over 17,000 species, is essential for GEVES to fulfil its mission in support of the seed industry, particularly in the context of internal and external training, interlaboratory trials and the development of new seed analysis methods.
