GEVES participation in the EPPO Workshop

As the National Reference Laboratory for Plant Health, GEVES is responsible for developing detection methods for non-quarantine regulated organisms (NQROs) on seeds and carrying out official analyses. In March, GEVES took part in the 6th Workshop for Managers of Plant Health Diagnostic Laboratories in Saku, Estonia, organised by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO). Hosted by METK (Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge Centre), the event brought together 40 participants from 24 countries.

Discussions focused on the traceability of pest outbreaks, the monitoring and management of outbreaks, and the interpretation of diagnostic results. Emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation between laboratories, particularly on the subjects of communication, traceability and monitoring of harmful organisms, bioinformatics tools, development of training courses, pathogenicity tests and a glossary of terminology.
