Different perspectives on variety catalogues and the seed sector

This summer, the GEVES station in Brion hosted several delegations to discuss the operational aspects of the Official Catalogue and intellectual property law.

Discussions with a delegation from Euroseeds and the UFS focused on the current implementation and future developments of the European Catalogue, as well as the recognition of genetic resistance in DUS studies.

Discussions with a delegation of academics from Benin and Senegal focused on the organisation of the seed sector in France and Europe, the role of regulation, and the relationship between academic training and economic operators.

Finally, as part of the #EI4PU project, a delegation from the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) examined the implementation and management of the Official Catalogue of Vegetable Varieties, with a focus on heritage varieties and those intended for organic agriculture.
