CTPS Potato: 4 new varieties proposed for registration

At the meeting of the Potato CTPS section held on 23 January, four new varieties of ware potatoes were proposed for inclusion on List A:

During this section, a presentation was given on the IMPROVE research programme (Methodological Innovation for Evaluating Potato Resistance to Virus Y), funded by the CASDAR knowledge call for projects. This programme, funded by CASDAR and led by inov3PT, has made it possible to assess the suitability of new trial sites, test a range of varieties with varying degrees of susceptibility to the Y virus, test new methods of inoculum production, develop new techniques for detecting the virus, in particular detection by qPCR, and finally carry out an economic study on the costs of the evaluation system. The changes affecting the protocol for assessing virus Y in the context of potato VSCU were presented and approved by the section. The financing plan for the additional costs incurred remains to be defined.

In addition, the findings of the working group dedicated to the VSCU assessment of TPS (True Potato Seeds) were presented. The section approved the merits of the proposed system and encouraged the experts to continue their work in order to finalise the details of the protocol. An estimate of the cost of this system must also be carried out.
