Technical visit by our Algerian counterparts from the CNCC

At the end of June, as part of a PROFAS C+ cooperation project funded by the French Embassy in Algeria, GEVES welcomed a group of 7 executives from the CNCC (National Centre for the Control and Certification of Seeds and Plants) to continue our discussions in the field on the inclusion of varieties in the Catalogue.

This cooperation project, initiated by the CNCC in Algiers, aims to complement the expertise of their teams so that they can adapt the DUS and VCU tests already in place to the new varieties on the market, and even develop new lists for their National Official Catalogue.

7 heads of registration and certification services for straw cereals, vegetable species and perennial crops spent a week at GEVES. They were able to discover some of our facilities and meet GEVES staff to learn more about their practices.

They were able to observe potato VSCU trials in the field (hosted by INRAE in Ploudaniel), straw cereal DUS and VSCU, pea and lentil DUS and varietal controls and apple DUS (at the INRAE La Rétuzière site). Of course, these visits were an opportunity to find out about our practices on other species, such as vegetables and ornamentals, as well as our experimental equipment.

This technical tour was completed by an immersion in the BioGEVES genotyping team for 2 of them, as well as a visit to the SNES (National Seed Testing Station).

This sharing of experience between registration and certification professionals was very enriching for both our organisations.

This programme is due to come to an end in early 2025: numerous exchanges by videoconference are still planned, as well as the visit of two GEVES teams to Algiers.
