A first for the Section: two collective webinars!

The CTPS Maize and Sorghum Section and members of all committees and expert groups were invited for the first time to two webinars on the introduction of the new 2024–2029 term of office and a presentation of scientific projects dealing with maize or sorghum.

In both cases, around forty people were able to join the webinars. The presentations were very well received, both in terms of the proposal for these new events and the content of the presentations and discussions that took place. The video recordings were then shared with everyone.

During the term of office, other information-sharing webinars in the same structure, videoconferences lasting a maximum of two hours, may be offered to the Maize and Sorghum CTP Section and to members of all committees and expert groups.

The first webinar took place on 3 April to formally introduce the new 2024–2029 term of office. The topics covered included:

  • The functioning and missions of the CTPS.
  • The registration of a variety in the French Official Catalogue.
  • The organisation of the CTPS Maize and Sorghum Section.
  • The missions of the expert groups.
  • The SPAD2 plan and the Section’s roadmap.
  • The ongoing work of the expert groups.

This was the first time that the mandate had been introduced in this form and with this content. The presentation was greatly appreciated by both new members and members who had renewed their participation in the CTPS.

The second webinar took place on 16 June and focused on ongoing scientific projects involving maize and sorghum:

  1. INVITE on maize (Innovations in Plant Variety Testing in Europe) :
    1. Presentation of objectives – GEVES, Gouleau Aurélia
    2. Molecular tools and application for DUS testing – BioGEVES, Thomasset Muriel
    3. Environmental characterisation of the European maize VSCU trial network – INRAE, Parent Boris
  2. MIRROS project on sorghum (ModelIng cRop Responses tO Repeated Stresses) – INRAE, Granier Christine
  3. NITROSORGH project on sorghum (A toolkit to manage NITROgen grain content and quality in SORGhum breeding) – CIRAD, Terrier Nancy

Sharing ongoing research in this format was also a first for the Section. The webinar was highly appreciated for its rich content and lively discussions.
