GEVES presence at the Graines Symposium
The RFBG held its tenth symposium in Nantes from 12 to 14 November. In his introduction, Christian Huyghe invited participants to reflect on “the direction of research into seed crops in order to return to within the limits of planetary resources”. The symposium brought together 120 participants.
On the agenda: five multidisciplinary sessions covering different scales of study and use. On the scientific side, the next generation is here, with no fewer than 14 PhD students presenting their thesis work. Legumes are gaining momentum in agroecology, and even if the areas under cultivation are not increasing, their value in human nutrition is undeniable.
A poster dedicated to the BrasExplor project was presented by GEVES. This project resulted in an innovative method for breaking turnip dormancy. It was the subject of an article in the latest issue of the ISTA journal. With the aim of improving the attractiveness of legumes and Brassica vegetables in our diets, two cookbooks co-created by the project partners were presented during the conference.
Special mention should be made of the last session devoted to wild flora, with original studies on zoochory and a joint presentation on national botanical conservatories, which are prepared to wait more than 300 days for a seed to germinate!
GEVES was also present with the exhibition Graines ou Semences, closely linked to the themes of the conference.
