Continuation of Franco-Algerian cooperation between GEVES and CNCC

As part of a PROFAS C+ cooperation project funded by the French Embassy in Algeria, two experts from the GEVES molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory (BioGEVES) travelled to the CNCC ( National Centre for the Control and Certification of Seeds and Plants) in Algiers from 22 to 24 October for practical training in molecular biology applied to varietal characterisation and seed batch control. This visit followed two theoretical training sessions held by videoconference on 9 and 10 October.

This two-day training course with 10 experts from the CNCC alternated practical work, classroom presentations and discussions on our respective practices, particularly in terms of quality requirements. This was an opportunity for GEVES to present the best DNA extraction techniques, the development of molecular marking strategies, data analysis and the interpretation of analysis results.

The CNCC’s laboratories are new and well organised, and the Algerian colleagues are highly motivated to develop these molecular biology approaches, and took part in the practical work with interest and enthusiasm. There was a rich exchange of views on our practices and prospects were discussed with a view to continuing this collaboration.
