Technical Support

As the National Reference Laboratory for Plant Health, GEVES provides technical oversight for several networks of approved laboratories.

Specialised training courses in plant health

To support the creation of new networks of approved laboratories, the Technical Unit for Pest Detection offers specialised training courses. These sessions aim to prepare future laboratories to carry out high-quality official analyses.

In addition to its NRL missions, GEVES also offers in-depth training courses in plant pathology. Our programmes cover a wide range of pests and innovative techniques, adapted to specific needs.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your training needs.

Inter-laboratory proficiency tests for the detection of pests

The ILC tests organised by GEVES cover a wide range of disciplines, including bacteriology, mycology, nematology and virology, on various plant species such as field crops and vegetable plants. These tests use a variety of techniques, such as PCR, ELISA, morphological recognition and isolation on Petri dishes.

Some ILCs are organised within the framework of the NRL for plant health, ensuring that the skills of accredited laboratories are monitored. At the same time, GEVES offers ILCs at international level, accessible to all laboratories wishing to assess their expertise in plant pathology.

For each ILC, a panel of samples is prepared and characterised, including both healthy and contaminated samples. These samples are coded to ensure impartiality and are provided to participants for analysis. The results are then subjected to rigorous statistical analysis, and each laboratory receives a detailed report of its performance.

Each year, GEVES organises an annual meeting with participants to review the ILCs carried out and discuss future needs.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to organise an ILC or a mini comparison (eil.semences@geves.fr).

Essential technical resources for analysis

As an NRL, GEVES can provide detailed reference data sheets illustrating the morphological characteristics of various pathogens, such as fungi and nematodes.

GEVES also provides a diverse range of reference materials, including contaminated grains, DNA, strains on agar plates and nematode larvae. These resources are essential for laboratories, as they provide reliable controls and enhance the accuracy of analyses.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to obtain reference material or technical data sheets.

Lab Open Days

Every year, the plant health NRLs organise a day to address key issues in plant pathology. This event brings together the NRLs (ANSES, GEVES and France AgriMer), the Ministry and approved laboratories in a friendly and collaborative setting.

The day provides an opportunity to share and discover current research projects, discuss developments in methods and the sector’s current challenges, and visit the NRL laboratories to discover the latest innovations.
