Basic plant pathology course at GEVES

The French Variety and Seed Study and Control Group (GEVES) recently welcomed a group of engineering students as part of a training course on the basics of plant pathology.

This event was an opportunity for these young scientists to explore the issues and methods associated with plant health, while discovering the infrastructures and skills of GEVES.

During their visit, the students had the opportunity to take part in practical and interactive workshops under the supervision of experts in plant pathology, including :

  • Recognition of fungi on seeds.
  • Laboratory detection techniques, including molecular tests.
  • The importance of evaluating varieties for their resistance to pathogens.
  • The prospects for biocontrol in sustainable agriculture.

The visit to the laboratory provided an opportunity to gain a better understanding of GEVES’ missions, and to raise awareness among these future professionals of the challenges of plant pathology for seeds and varieties.
