Detection and identification of insects in seed lots: enhanced collaboration with Anses

By combining their expertise, GEVES and Anses offer seed industry professionals a high-quality service adapted to current plant health monitoring challenges concerning insect pests.

A new service is now available at SNES for the detection and identification of insects in seed samples. Samples can be sent directly to GEVES, which carries out the detection stage using a validated method and specialized equipment, including an X-ray system that can analyse the internal structure of seeds and thus detect the possible presence of hidden insects. If one or more specimens are detected, Anses will then identify the isolated insects. This organization enables the specific skills of each organization to be leveraged, combining GEVES’ expertise in detection with Anses’ expertise in taxonomic identification.

This close collaboration ensures rigorous sample processing, enhanced reliability of results, complete traceability of analyses, and a response that complies with health and regulatory requirements.
