“Plant and Animal Genome” Conference

The 27th International Plant and Animal Genome Conference was held from 12-16 January in San Diego, California, USA. This conference brought together more than 3,000 scientists from about 60 countries. Approximately 2,400 abstracts were submitted, 1,260 posters were displayed and 180 sessions were held during these 4 days of congress. Beyond the scientific work, this conference brought together 135 private companies, suppliers of equipment or laboratory consumables and service providers mainly dedicated to genetic analysis and genomics. The largest foreign delegation comes from Canada, and France is in 3rd position with more than 100 participants. This 27th edition was marked by the absence of scientists from the USDA and the cancellation of several workshops due to the shutdown of the US administration. Sessions on potato, sweet potato and cannabis were inaugurated at this 2019 edition in addition to the usual sessions focusing mainly on field crop, horticultural and exotic species. Among the 7 Plenary presentations, 4 were devoted to work on plants, marking the growing importance of plants in this conference. It is interesting to note the importance of sequencing and resequencing genomes, including non-model species, as well as the mass of data processed in most of the studies presented.
